About me

I’ve been writing software since I first got my hands on a computer, around 1980.

I gave my first computer training in 1983, on Kaypro “portable” computers, running CP/M, in dBase, WordPerfect, Visicalc.

After about 15 years in IT I got bored with it and took a detour in to business and personal coaching. It wasn’t long until fellow coaches noticed my technical skill and I got slowly pulled back in. I was asked to run a very active online community for coaches. The volume of messages got overwhelming for some members. I created a new system in Zope and Python to make this easier to handle.

That was over 25 years ago and Python has been my number one programming language ever since. Not just because it is created by a fellow Dutchman, but mostly because it gets things done. It may not be the best language for everything but it is good enough, and fast enough, for most things.

Many years and many interesting IT projects later, I still enjoy writing code - mostly to support my training activities, and for personal interests, etc. These days I spend most of my time creating and delivering training courses, typically on programming and/or Python.
